Past Projects
Salluit, Quebec
The Out of Sound Rezonance Program began in the Inuit village of Salluit QC. It was started as a partnership between Kirsten Palm, educator and artist, and Adam Sturgeon, Indigenous community worker and artist. The goal of the program was to provide meaningful after-school programming for youth at the local high school, and also to connect Indigenous youth with Indigenous mentors. The program was a paid internship where selected youth spent eight months establishing and running a local screen-printing studio in their community. The program borrowed many teachings from renowned Triple K Co-op print shop; their inspiring objective to regain economic and artistic control over Indigenous art forms. The program’s mentor, Anishnaabek artist Adam Sturgeon, focused on teaching artistic, entrepreneurial, and work related skills, while concurrently fostering the student’s love of art and pride of ownership. The studio was awarded he 2012 Quebec Youth Entrepreneurial Award for their achievements.
The Interim
After the internship ended, the program migrated to Southern Ontario. Here, the focus of the program shifted to workshop based training, the goal still being to bring Indigenous artists into Indigenous communities in order to pass knowledge to younger generations. Out of Sound Rezonance has run workshops in London, ON; Fredericton, NB; and Kingsclear First Nation, NB.
